Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1929
What is your primary product or service?
The Zion Natural History Association (ZNHA) is a non-profit organization established in 1929 to support education, research, publication and other programs for the benefit of Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Pipe Spring National Monument. Financial support by ZNHA members combines with the sales from our bookstores to provide the parks with approximately $600,000 in aid annually. The educational arm of ZNHA is the Zion Canyon Field Institute (ZCFI) which provides dozens of hands-on one- to three-day seminars each year. The fundraising division of ZNHA is the Zion National Park Foundation. The foundation is the official fundraising partner of Zion National Park. The retail operations of ZNHA fund the overhead of the foundation, making it possible for more than 90 percent of Foundation-generated funds to go directly to important Projects in Zion National Park.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
ZNHA is the only not-for-profit in Zion National Park. Proceeds and donations directly benefit park programs and enhance the visitor experience.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
There is a retail outlet in the visitor center in Zion, the Kolob section of Zion, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Pipe Spring National Monument, and on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake City in the Office of Tourism building across the street from the State Capitol building.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, Travelers Cheques, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express
Which areas do you service?
Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Pipe Spring National Monument and Salt Lake City
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
ZNHA and the Zion National Park Foundation are governed by a board of directors. An Executive Director, Finance Director, and Operations and Development Director oversee daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
Office hours are Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Retail stores vary depending on the time of year and hours of operation for the National Park Service. The store on Capitol Hill is open 9-5 seven days a week.
